Gogh Where The Joy Resides

Experience Immersive Art as Intentional Play

Immersive art experiences are popping up more and more, and there’s probably already one happening in your city right now. If you haven’t heard about these incredible art exhibits or aren’t completely sold on making the investment in going, follow along as I recap and review my experiences visiting Immersive van Gogh at Lighthouse Artspace Dallas.

Immersion is the act of becoming utterly involved with something, pulled into its universe and losing your sense of self in the process.

It’s more than looking at traditional paintings in a gallery - in this type of exhibit YOU are one with the painting. While admiring art in a more traditional sense is also soul-satisfying and fascinating in its own right, immersive art experiences allow a wider audience to gain a unique perspective on classic pieces or famous artists merging state-of-the-art technology, theatrical storytelling, and world-class animation which explains why over two million tickets have sold across North America!

You’ve probably seen several of van Gogh’s paintings since popular favorites like Starry Night, Sunflower, The Potato Eaters, Almond Blossoms, The Bedroom and so many more are displayed worldwide, but trust that Immersive van Gogh Dallas is one of the greatest and most innovative ways to experience his art. The exhibit combines stunning visual projections and accompanying music to completely cover your mind, body, and soul in van Gogh’s work.

The immersive experience was created by digital art master and pioneer, Massimiliano Siccardi and features an amazing 500,000 cubic feet of projections that take van Gogh’s art and make it larger than life, and 60,000+ frames of video that animate and enhance his work like never before. I personally experienced this exhibit not once, but twice! Although I thoroughly enjoyed it the first time, I had no idea how different it could be going back for a second round of Immersive van Gogh simply to enjoy myself as an ambassador of the exhibit.

You see, while I am always looking for new ways to play, experiencing this under a new set of circumstances was the perfect play-date I didn’t know I needed. The first time I visited the exhibit was on a date a few months ago, and while I totally appreciated my company, the amazing art and the exhibit’s creativity, something called me to go back and truly experience it once more with a fellow millennial creative, performing artist and friend Blythe Dennis.

There’s something so special about the connection of people, art, and music in the heart of Dallas that each time is unique and different. This outing served as a reminder of how beautiful and surprising life can be, and in a way, it was a kind of therapy for me. In fact, I was so inspired that I couldn't wait to make my own playlist on Spotify titled Leggo van Gogh that combines the perfectly paired soundtrack composed by Luca Longobardi and some additional selections mixed in a way that fills me with joy. You can find it here!

So, if you’ve been looking for a new way to treat yourself and your soul, this might be the surprise play-date for you, friend. Gogh get your joy!

And... if you haven’t already heard, the next immersive experience coming to Dallas features none other than the revolutionary Frida Khalo.

Maybe I’ll see you there!
